In 2016, Rúben Sevivas produced a short film about a swimming athlete diagnosed with cancer, documenting his emotional and physical journey. João Araújo, the film’s sound director, showed me the film and asked for an illustration. Inspired by the athlete’s internal struggle and swimming towards the unknown, I created an image of a figure swimming, hollow inside, embodying the emotional weight of the situation. Maria João Rodrigues then used my illustration to design the film’s poster. This project remains one of my favorite collaborations, combining emotional depth with creative expression.
